What is interlibrary loan?
It is the goal of Interlibrary Loan to locate and acquire, whenever possible, a wide variety of materials considered to be essential components of the educational and research needs of our college community. The I.L.L. department is responsible for lending materials owned by Reed Library to other institutions. Reed Library's I.L.L. policy complies with all American Library Association guidelines and the copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code).
Who can use interlibrary loan?
Currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff. Others should use the services of their public library.
How much does interlibrary loan cost?
Loans are free unless we are charged by the lending institution. When there is a charge, we will contact you before ordering the material to see if you will be willing to pay for it. All borrowers pay the cost for overdue fines they incur.
How do I use interlibrary loan?
Set up an account by using the Interlibrary Loan Request Form. Once your ILLiad account is established you can request material that is not in the Reed Library collection, and we will request the material for you from other libraries. Journal articles will be delivered to you electronically using your campus email account. Books and other materials, such as videos, scores, DVDs, CDs, or microfilm will be available for you to pick up at the library's circulation desk. If you submit more than 5 requests simultaneously, please prioritize them, using the "notes" field on the online form.
How long will interlibrary loan take?
Please allow 7-10 days for processing book requests and 3-6 days for article requests, depending on the time of year.
How do I get my interlibrary loan?
You will be notified via campus email when your material has arrived. Journal articles will be sent to your campus email, allowing you to print, view or download the material. All other materials can be picked up and checked out at the Circulation Desk using your Fredonia ID card.
How long can I have my interlibrary loan?
The loan period and renewal options are determined by the lending library. To check the due date for an item or renew it, see the Renew page on Reed Library's website.
How do I return my interlibrary loan?
All materials borrowed through Interlibrary Loan must be returned to the Circulation Desk. All borrowers pay the cost, including processing fees, for materials they lose or damage. All borrowers pay the cost for overdue fines they incur. Reed Library can suspend borrowing and library privileges should they be abused.
