Over the course of this multi-year renovation, Reed Library will be transformed into a modern forum—preserving I.M. Pei’s original vision while modernizing a beloved campus landmark.
In partnership with Architectural Resources (A|r) and Perry Dean Rogers Architects (PDR), this project focuses on interior improvements that foster collaboration, innovation, and accessibility. By upgrading infrastructure, reconfiguring spaces, and integrating cutting-edge technology, we aim to create a library that inspires scholarship and meets the evolving needs of the Fredonia community.
During this transition, essential services—including circulation, research assistance, frequently used collections, and library faculty and staff— will relocate to the Carnahan-Jackson Center.
What to Expect
-
Transition Period (Summer 2025): Some library services will be limited as the Carnahan-Jackson Center is prepared for use as our temporary surge space.
-
Fall 2025 Surge Space: By the start of the Fall 2025 semester, library services, study areas, and core resources will be available in the Carnahan-Jackson Center for the duration of the renovation.
-
Full Reopening: The renovated Reed Library is projected to reopen in Fall 2027, with additional upgrades for Special Collections & Archives completed by Summer 2028.
