Open Educational Resources (OER) Toolkit

OER Discovery Labs

Reed Library and the Professional Development Center host OER Discovery Labs every other Friday, from 9 - 11 a.m. at the PDC Lounge in Reed Library (126 Reed Library). Librarians and representatives from the PDC and the Office of Online Learning will be available to help you determine if OER are right for you and begin finding OER to fit your classes.

OER Discovery Labs are drop-in sessions that assist faculty with the process of finding, evaluating, and using open education resources (OER). Attendees will receive one-on-one assistance and will be provided with strategies for finding OER materials that support their teaching style and course learning outcomes. Come see if OER is the right option for you!

To attend a Discovery Lab, make an appointment on the PDC event calendar, or simply drop in!

SUNY OER Community Courses

SUNY OER Services offers six online Community Courses to "introduce you to the fundamental principles and effective practices related to Open Educational Resources.

"Throughout this learning space, you will have the opportunity to explore and discuss methods and approaches to finding, adopting, customizing, integrating, creating, publishing, and licensing OER. You will also have opportunities to connect in conversation with your peers, and work with OER advocates from the SUNY community who can help you along your learning journey."

The available courses are:

  • Understanding OER
  • Identifying, Finding, and Adopting OER
  • Customizing and Integrating OER
  • Creating, Licensing, and Publishing OER
  • Sharing and Promoting OER
  • Open-NYS Open Pedagogy Master Class

Librarian Appointments

Librarians are also available to meet one-on-one with faculty members to help with all aspects of the OER process: finding OER, building an OER from multiple components, and integrating additional resources into your class.

To make an appointment, submit an OER adoption appointment request form. Requests may take up to 1 business day to be scheduled.

Course Redesign Incentive

Fredonia offers a course redesign incentive of up to $750 for faculty members who change their courses to use OER. For more information on the incentive or to apply, see the incentive page.

OnCourse Integration

Many OER textbooks and courses, including all those available through SUNY OER Services, can be integrated with OnCourse to provide a seamless experience for students.

To request access to a SUNY OER Services textbook or course, submit a SUNY OER Services Request form.
