ReedSearch: Background

Reed Library's Catalog & One-Stop "Discovery" Interface

For several years, Reed Library used Aleph as its catalog.

Over the summer of 2019, all 64 libraries in the SUNY system migrated to a new system, Alma, and its partner Primo.  Reed Library branded our system as "ReedSearch."  ReedSearch is the public interface for Fredonia students, faculty, staff, and community members.

ReedSearch provides one-stop searching for a variety of information resources.

What is Alma?

"Alma is the only unified library services platform in the world, managing print, electronic, and digital materials in a single interface. As a completely cloud-based service, Alma provides libraries with the most cost-effective library management solution in the industry."

from the Ex Libris Alma website

Alma is the "back-end," where all the cataloging, acquisitions, processing of books, and other library resources occurs. The library staff will use Alma.

What is ReedSearch (Primo)?

ReedSearch (Primo) is the name of the "discovery service" partner to Alma.  A discovery service in a library is a one-stop spot for users of the library to find books and other library resources.  Patrons of Reed Library will use ReedSearch's interface to search for books, etc.
